SPINTECH at the European Commission's EU vs. Virus Challenge
28/04/2020

IEEN members represented the SPINTECH project by participating in the European Commisssion's Hackathon + Matchathon + EIC COVID Platform initiative, #EUvsVirus, in April 2020, to create solutions to combat COVID-19.. As a "SPINTECH-Mask" team - members of the  project team ( Anastolie.Sidorenko, Evgheni.Antropov, Tatiana .Gutul, Tatiana Mironic) - presented their elaboration of a technological process of  preparation of active nanoparticles ( colloidal solution) of Ag , Fe and SiO2  and introduced them in  usual textile masks, which  gives long-term protection for medical personnel. This event created  useful new contacts with two  groups -   Florian from Romania  (he elaborated a very efficient machine for mask production) and Nevena form Bulgaria - a manager of a big factory, producing textile masks. Both individuals expressed interest in  collaborating with IEEN to produce   active masks. Their technology was very well-received and during 3 days of intensive  mutual work, it was presented along with  2140  projects, dealing with various solutions against COVID-19.

This is an elaborate technology of fabrication of Anti-virus, antibacterial reusable masks with  anti-adhesive coating based on zinc oxide, iron oxide nanoparticles, modified with silicon oxide and nanosilver nanoparticles.

The coating prevents  penetration of the viruses and bacteria through the mask and not  just sticking it on the mask, but  also destroys pathogens.
The proposed effective method for applying anti-virus and anti-adhesive coatings to usual textile masks consists in processing products in a colloidal solution of nanoparticles using ultrasound treatment, followed by drying of the masks. The applied active nanoparticles suppress the pathogenic microflora, giving additional effective protection.
The scope is the protection of medical staff, social workers and services, as well as other categories of workers who have daily contact with a large number of people.
